Task: Empire Magazine: Cover analysis

This is the August 2008 magazine of Empire. Empire is one of the leading Film magazines in the world. Here is my analysis of this front cover and how we could use this cover to help with our own.

The first thing that catches my eye is the name of the film magazine. "Empire". It is in bold red colouring and takes up most of the top third of the cover to catch audiences attention.

I then notice the picture of Harry Potters face taking up most of the picture. He has a serious face on with him bleeding from cuts on his eye, cheek and chin and having a crack in his glasses. This tells me that this week/months empire magazine will be mainly focused on the new Harry Potter as he is the main attraction to the picture. This is then backed up with the massive writing next to Harry's face. "Massive preview special" telling the audience that this could be the big film of the month.

I then see the smaller writing on the left handside, which then reveals more about what articles are in the magazine including 6 new films coming up. I then notice the slogan Empire has adopted. "The worlds biggest movie magazine", this tells me and the audience that this is probably the one movie magazine we should read.

I think we should look at this film magazine and take ideas on how this magazine cover gets the main attraction of the magazine across. We should maybe take the idea of having a big picture of our main character to take most of the magazine cover up because then audiences will know what film to whatch in this month.
